The Ministry of Internal Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has recommended Touch ‘n Go (TnG) change the name of his visa card. This is because the word “Touch ‘n Go” is synonymous with the toll payment system, hence it would confuse the public that the Visa card could get to pay tolls when the card cannot.
As reported by Bernama, KPDN Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said the recommendation is one of the immediate actions directed by the ministry in an engagement session with TnG management to resolve issues arising from TnG card services. The company was given one week to draw up the next follow-up action plan based on the recommendations.
He further said that TnG should explain to users that its visa prepaid cards are only for purchasing goods and services and withdrawing money. In addition, TnG was also instructed to conduct advocacy and provide early notice to users to inform them of the expiration of the card period.
In addition, the company was told to improve methods and speed up the process and period of refunds and balance transfers. TnG was also instructed to add ticketing centers and services in locations other than the existing centers in KL Sentral and Bangsar.
The company must also ask providers of online business platforms to remove advertisements promoting TnG cards being sold by third parties who do not have permission to sell the cards. Speaking of that, Salahuddin stressed that the KPDN’s Enforcement Department will take legal action against any party selling TnG cards above the price set by the issuer under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.
