KKD: Additional features to DNB’s 5G implementation will be announced this March


The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) is currently studying and evaluating the options available to ensure 5G deployment is expanded across Malaysia. In addition, the Ministry is expected to introduction and implementation of 5G by Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) with added features towards the end of March 2023.

As reported by Bernama, KKD minister, Fahmi Fadzil hopes that the additional functions will not have a negative effect on our country’s finances. He also hopes that the 5G network will have at least 80 percent coverage of populated areas by 2025.

Fahmi further emphasized that the implementation of 5G was intended to help companies and factories obtain efficient and fast communication services. As such, productivity would be improved and an efficient service provided to the public.

We previously reported that the Malaysian government is reviewing DNB’s rollout of the national 5G network due to concerns over transparency. In addition, on January 13, 2023, the cabinet announced that the implementation policy for 5G networks is expected to be submitted to the cabinet at the end of the first quarter of 2023.
